Classic Solutions Inc. is a mixture of
coincidences. First and foremost we are a sign shop. The owner moved to America from
England several years ago and has an engineering design background. He
started Art School at the age of 11, was never really an artist, but excelled
on the design side, did not get into playing with computers until much later on. Has
experience with polyester resin and urethane foam.
Coming here to Pinehurst in North Carolina
in 1991, he quickly realized that there was a need for something that could substitute
for sandblasted redwood for golf signage, (there is not much here but golf courses).
Signs that not only looked good but would not react like redwood and be close to
maintenance free.
At first we tried to develop a form of urethane
foam that actually had a grain in it when sandblasted. We did succeed in that , but
unfortunately it would have cost approximately $200 per square foot. We then went in
the direction of making molds and casting blank signs. This we did for several years
locally before we decided to branch out and sell to other people.
At one point we were approached by another company
who asked if they could market our product and we worked with them for several months.
That did not work out. After that little episode we got down to selling
direct. This we have been doing for the past few years, but of course it is
expensive advertising to all 26,500 sign shops in the USA so we have been doing it
gradually and we hope this Web site is really going to be a help to all who visit
it.
At present we have some 30 different sizes and
shapes in our generic range,(not counting our custom molds). We are adding to that
range all the time, if you want us to produce a particular design for you we will,
and if we get enough requests for a certain sign, then we will certainly produce it, but
we do have to know that we can sell at least 50 of them (this number varies depending on
each sign) to make it cost effective to produce the master and mold in the first place. We
cast our regular high density foam which is between 16 and 18 lbs. pcf. If you would
like to know more about that, click here and it will explain to
you why our density varies. We also have a higher density which is 22-24 lbs. pcf.
and then we have the Ultra, which is over 26 lbs. pcf. This one we do not recommend
for sandblasting, as it is too hard but we believe it is very good in high impact areas,
like golf courses. (Testing is still ongoing at this time, therefore the ultra is
not yet in production).
