Wooden
signs come in many types ....
plywood signs
wooden board signs
redwood signs
cedar signs
sandblasted wood
Plywood and wooden board signs have for the most part been replaced by man made materials that will never not rot like wood signs. It was the norm to order a hand lettered plywood sign for everything from selling real estate to business signs. Wood was the answer because wooden signs were the option. Now wood signs have for the most part been replaced by PVC, aluminum and corrugated plastic. We still use plywood for certain signs but with the modern wood glues used and the fact that the wood is laminated between two sheets of aluminum makes for a very strong wooden sign that's resistant to rotting. Our designers will recommend whether to use wood in your sign depending on the job and structure that the sign will be used in.
At one time every wooden sign was painted and then lettered by hand. Today very few wooden signs or any type of sign is hand lettered. Most lettering on signs is done with vinyl that is cut or printed by machine. This gives a much more consistent look to the new equivalent of the wooden sign, and depending on the paint used might last longer than the traditional wooden sign or it might not.
