Above
A bad example of a sandblasted sign

Many of you must have seen sandblasted urethane foam signs with that ugly uneven finish. I have even seen some that have won competitions where the quality of the sandblasting was what you would expect from a beginner, when you look at them they are very uneven, you can actually see the lines where the sandblaster has gone backwards and forwards.  This is not at all good.  When we blast, we try to get the most even   texture that we can. (Of course we don't want it too perfect or it would lose its charm, but you certainly don't want to see blast lines about each letter.)  Here is a photograph  of what I believe to be a very poor sandblasted sign. I hope you can see what I'm talking about. I don't know who made it, I do not want to know, that way I won't feel guilty about showing their work.

We don't claim to get every sign we blast perfectly even like this one (on the left).  However any undulations that are there should only show when the sun is shining across the face (like the sign below) not when its shining onto it.

(2) Creating faux wood grain on urethane foam sheet materials
There are several ways this can be done varying from wire brushing; using chisels and knives, to blasting through piano wire. We believe that our method gives as realistic a look as is necessary for just about any sign and here are a few examples.

(3) Directory signs with removeable panels

7lakes1.JPG (54173 bytes)
For anyone who has created a urethane foam sign with removable panels on it, one problem that can occur is that if you aren't the one changing the panels the screw holes wear out very quickly.  We have overcome this, if you look at the photograph closely you can see small dots on the raised areas where the panels go.  These are threaded metal inserts that take machine screws that  go in and out as many times as is necessary.

(4) Redwood
We still work in redwood (all heart vertical grain not construction grade) and cedar etc. when requested.

These are two 6'x 14' redwood signs
built in l993. (The low resolution I have to used on the photographs makes the surface of the sign appear smooth and uneven.  It isn't!
