-
The
urethane sign is 1.5" thick. Into which groves were routed in
the back to take 2"x.25" steel flat bar welded to form a
skeleton, and epoxied into place.
-
This
extended 4" past the sides of the sign to allow for mounting.
-
The
steel tabs fit into slots cut in the custom shaped treated posts
and a galvanized lag screw is screwed through from the back to
hold it in place.
-
The
whole sign was then backed off with a piece of .75"marine ply, a
little smaller than the main sign, and epoxied onto the back.
-
This
was then coated with several coats of a solid urethane to
encapsulate the ply and seal it, this is not like the
polyurethane you get from the paint store it builds to a
thickness of about 1/8th inch and has a very high impact
resistance.
-
So a
very strong and durable sign is created
-
The
front of the sign was sandblasted in three levels,
-
the
various areas were either air brushed, dry brushed or hand
painted.
-
Water
Pointe II and the outer border were gilded using 23kt. patent
leaf.
-
Lastly the palm tree and the Adirondack chair were carved and
glued on as appliqués.
