We will focus on the town and city welcome or entrance signs as they are a very important part of any city's public image.
City, Town Welcome, and Entrance Signs.
For residents and visitors alike a well-designed and readable sign is a welcome sight. Town and city signs define the city limits, welcome new visitors, and let folks know they have arrived.
They should be pleasing to the eye but at the same time be clear and legible. In smaller towns and cities they are often less formal, sometimes even a little quirky. One thing municipalities should try to steer clear of is getting too flowery, and I don't mean flowers! A visitor should be able to absorb the content of your sign at 50 MPH on a dark and rainy night because that's who they are really meant to help. Let's face it once you have read a sign you rarely give it more than a cursory look again.
On this site, I often refer to C C L ...CLARITY CONTRAST LEGIBILITY
It doesn't make much difference to you, who pass the sign every day, but it makes a big difference to new visitors. We often see signs designed by well-meaning amateurs who create detailed and convoluted works of art that contain huge scripted letters wrapped around each other. Yes, they are great works of art that took a lot of work to produce, but even on a clear day traveling at 50mph, they are unintelligible blobs.
We are very proud of the craftsmanship that went into the Pinehurst sign to the right. Had they allowed us to make a small change to their design and give the lettering a slightly bolder stroke it would have made a lot of difference to the legibility of what I believe is a beautifully designed traditional sign. All the moldings were custom and hand made from redwood
When traveling, people look for signs for confirmation of where they are, even in these days of GPS.
Below is a city sign designed to fit the 29ft. diameter curved wall of a traffic circle.
Classic Signs can design your City or Town sign incorporating beautiful design (yours or ours), and/or your seal/ emblem into a professionally made welcome sign.
Secondly, I want to talk about our super strong hurricane and vandal-resistant signage.
Vandal and Hurricane resistant signage
If you are having damage or vandal problems follow this link to read about our solid polyester signage. The Town of Southern Pines was having a lot of damage from vandals about 12 years ago and needed something different, but they didn't want to change the look of their signs, we suggested making a mold and producing some of our super tough signs.
The Douglas sign above and Nick's Creek to the left are two of about 10 signs we have made for various uses over the years. Since then they have only lost 1 sign; a large truck ran over it! These signs can emulate whatever was used for the original. So if you want the look of sandblasted redwood we can do that. Not only that, but they will actually cost less than real old growth vertical grain redwood. Please note: because we make a mold and cast the sign blanks, it is only cost-effective with multiples. We don't want to mislead you into thinking it is less expensive when producing just 1 or 2 signs.
